Freeva Recognised with Award Nominations

To be recognised as a finalist for Charity of the Year is a humbling reminder of the impact that can be achieved when communities, volunteers, staff, and partners work together. And to see Denis Walsh as a finalist at the VAL Awards reflects the dedication of those who stand with us in this mission.

We are proud to announce that Freeva has been shortlisted as a finalist for Charity of the Year at the Niche Awards 2025. In addition, our dedicated volunteer Denis Walsh has been named a finalist for the Kathryn Burgess Volunteer of the Year Award at the VAL Awards.

These nominations recognise the ongoing efforts of our team and volunteers to end domestic abuse, rape and sexual violence across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Over the past year we have:

Received over 13,000 referrals

And continue to provide confidential support through our helpline, with thousands of calls answered from individuals in need of advice and safety planning.

Offered Crisis Intervention

Delivered frontline advocacy and specialist services such as ISVA, IDVA, CHISVA and MARAC, ensuring that those at highest risk are protected and supported.

Addressed Harmful Behaviours

Expanded our behavioural change work through projects including the Young People’s Project and The Jenkins Project, addressing harmful behaviours and supporting healthier relationships.

Education and Awareness

We engage with the community to raise awareness about sexual & domestic violence and the importance of consent, aiming to prevent future incidents and foster a culture of respect.

We are invested in prevention and awareness campaigns, training professionals, and engaging with local schools, businesses and community groups.

Seeking Change

Being a finalist for Charity of the Year is an honour that reflects not just our organisation, but the collective commitment of survivors, volunteers, staff, trustees and partners who continue to work together to build a safer community.

The recognition of Denis Walsh highlights the value of volunteers who give their time to support young people in navigating challenges such as managing emotions, forming positive relationships and resolving conflict. His dedication embodies the spirit of Freeva and the difference that volunteers make to our work.

We would like to thank Niche Awards and VAL for recognising these efforts, and extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported Freeva along the way.
